Inspire Creations Update

I have been busy with several creative writing assignments including content for 3 newsletters and working on a special edition of one of my poetry books.

I also redesigned my website which has been going through some changes.  I’m working on uploading so new photography soon and still trying to work out a few kinks within my website but I am pleased with the progress I have made so far.

My tenth book “Fighting the Blues” has received great reviews and I still have a few to post to my website including the one from my local newspaper.  I have received over 30 reviews and appreciate the feedback I have gotten from readers.  I am taking notes on doing another edition of this book but with more details and research about how depression has a big impact on the African American community.

Speaking of another edition, I plan to do a special hardcopy version of one of my previous titles “In Memory of Nancy” for sometime during the fall.  It will include new poetry and I’m working on a new cover for this edition.

As the Family Health Examiner and Poetry Examiner, I have newsletters for each that feature content on several topics and issues.  I invite anyone who is not subscribed to my newsletters to visit the page and sign-up.  I am also working on the Nancy A. Herrin Foundation newsletter featuring content from other writers on multiple topics as well. This newsletter will be available in the fall.

Thanks to all who have been reading and supporting my projects and I look forward to sharing more updates soon.  You can also visit my website for additional details.

As a BizyMom Expert Writer I share tips and advice on different topics that effect busy mom’s.  I came across this article by another busy mom that I wanted to share title:  Superwoman Says NO for Empowerment.

I found the article a good reminder of how we, as moms, are good at multi-tasking duties within our daily schedule yet we sometimes don’t say NO when we should mainly due to guilt.

The article writer, Jennifer Culver, shares examples that many moms can relate to and tips on how to make things easier for yourself when make decisions.

Think positive / google images

Thinking positive helps you see things in your life in a good light and for many, it helps in getting goals accomplished.  Often many of us are thinking negatively about certain aspects in our lives but we do it so often that it becomes difficult to change your thinking into a positive direction. We either constantly feel like something bad will happen or see failure right from the beginning. After being in this pattern for a lengthy period of time, so many feel it will be more difficult to adopt positive habits but it doesn’t have to be.

Thinking positive more often does help boost your confidence and has many benefits. Thinking positive plays a big role in achieving personal goals and for many, it helps them be happier overall. I came across several interesting short articles on tips and suggestions for thinking positive.  Each article features different tips that can easily be applied in daily living.  The more you get yourself into thinking positive, the easier it becomes to maintain and control negative thoughts.

Positive thinking can also help reduce stress and many of us are going through a ton of it now!

Simple tips to help build self confidence

Self-confidence / google images

Many of us will admit in certain situations we may not be as confident as we should be.  Often we may not see being confident as important as having motivation to get things done but these aspects usually work hand in hand so if you’re lacking in one area, chances are you may give up sooner on whatever it is your trying to pursue.

I came across an article about how you can instantly build your confidence. Although I’m not sure if you really can build your confidence instantly, the article does give useful tips on how you can utilize these tips daily to help you feel better about yourself.

  1. Pay attention to how you dress.
  2. Increase your walking pace.
  3. Maintain good posture.
  4. Review you goals and strengths (personal achievements).
  5. Be grateful for what you do have.
  6. Give other people praise and recognition.
  7. Stay physically fit.

In all, the article featured 10 ways but these were my favorites. There were some that were mentioned that many may not think about when it comes to building confidence that may get you thinking.

Even though many of already know some of these tips it helps to get refreshed on what you can do to keep up a positive image and pass the word on to others.

4 key factors to help you build self-motivation

self-motivation (google images)

For achieving goals and accomplishing personal success many of us are aware that motivation plays a big role in the planning process.  I wanted to share an article link on learning about your self-motivation. The article allows you to quiz yourself and see how your own motivation can be improved to help you get things done.  The article has a 12 question quiz that has some interesting results depending on your overall score. From here, you’ll be able to review a self-assessment on how decisions you make affect your motivation.

The article talks about 4 main factors that are necessary for building strong levels of self-motivation:

1. Self-confidence and self-efficacy.

2. Positive thinking and positive thinking about the future.

3. Focus and strong goals.

4. A motivating environment.

Personally, I think many of us lack these 4 factors and become easily distracted and get off course when it comes to reaching goals. I hope the article gives you additional insight on how can improve your self-motivation skills and really turn them into a valuable asset toward improving your life and reaching your goals.

Updates on creative writing projects in progress and upcoming

Summer sunrise sky 2010 by Inspire Creations/Tanisha Herrin

While dealing with depression I have decided to work on more creative writing projects over the last several months.  Because I enjoy writing I see it as an opportunity to be productively active in a positive way while working to improve my writing skills.  Sometimes I find myself getting caught up in more than one writing project, which I feel I am in the mist of another writing frenzy.

Some may have noticed that I may occasionally share health articles I have been writing.  I am the Akron Family Health Examiner in which I examiner health topics and issues in relation to Akron area families.  Since I wanted to be able to write about depression and things that may affect depression, being the Akron Family Health Examiner helps to put being healthy as a priority.  It has helped me learn various health sources in and around the Akron area as well as learn about how various health issues are affecting area families.

Even though my articles are localized, some of the topics and content may have an interest to those who may not live in Ohio, so I do encourage those to take a few moments to read the article link that gets posted from time to time on the Facebook fan page.

Those who live in and around the Akron, OH area are welcome to subscribe to my family health newsletter to receive regular updates.  I also have a new Akron Health Updates page on Facebook that is regular updated with local health articles, tips and more.

I am in the process of updating my website with new info including photos for my inspirational photography projects and other creative writing details.  I have been working on ideas for another poetry book and looking to do a special edition of the “In Memory of Nancy” book.  For more information visit my website, www.therrinpoetry.com.

I am also considering examining poetry in Akron including getting some interviews with local poets, events and more.  If you are a poet in the Akron or northeastern Ohio area, email me about an interview or to be included in upcoming poetry related projects.

Motivational Poem: Making Life Worthwhile

Sunlight beaming through clouds by Inspire Creations/Tanisha Herrin

Get there from some good

Some little grace; one kindly thought

One aspiration yet unfelt

One bit of courage

For the darkening sky

One gleam of faith

To brave the thickening ills of life

One glimpse of brighter skies

To make this life worthwhile

And heaven a surer heritage.

-George Eliot

Remembering a Mother

Beautiful Rose photo by Tanisha Herrin

A haiku: In My Dreams I See You

You’re in the corner,

watching me silently and

peacefully smiling.

A poem I wrote for my mother when she passed away suddenly in November 2005.  There are still days I can’t believe she is no longer living but I am thankful for the good times we had and even the struggles we managed to find our way out of.

I haven’t been a big fan of kids so for me to be a mother of 2 still has me in shock!  My mother did get a chance to enjoy her grandson before she passed but I know she would have been even more thrilled to have a granddaughter.

So what makes a mother so special?  Is it how she cooks? Is it her special talents or how she cares for others?  This question will have a variety of answers that many people can agree with because people often see their mother in a certain light that makes her so special.

Nancy Herrin 1959-2005 In Loving Memory

Special blessings to mother’s who have passed on to a better place as we remember you today and every day we continue to live and breathe.

Article: Mother’s Day also celebrates mother’s we have lost

Special blessings to mother’s who work so hard in keeping their children on the right path in life.  To mother’s who are fortunate enough to say they are happy for children and their success and to the mothers who have the courage and the strength to deal with difficulties and trials within their families/

Being a mother is an ongoing job that never ends but its rewards are priceless.

Helping a depressed family member

Depression is a serious illness that affects millions of people around the globe. It also affects people who are part of a family, and perhaps yours too. Family members can often find it perplexing to understand the problem, let alone deal with it. In such cases, a pall of gloom hangs over the entire family and everyone wants to help but doesn’t know how. Here are a few pointers to set you off in the right direction if ever you are in a similar situation.

There is a cause for his or her depression

No one is depressed for no reason at all; there has to be a reason, and a big one at that. Perhaps it is something you never imagined possible or ever wondered if that had such potential to make your family member feel depressed over a prolonged period. This is why depressed people find it very difficult to explain the reason for their depression or even resolving it.

Fight the problem, not each other

When a family member is diagnosed with depression, other members of the family are blamed for it. In case you are blamed, don’t be quick to accept the blame or point an accusing finger at anyone else. Instead, get together with the family and fight the problem, not one another.

Talk to your depressed family member, but don’t talk down to him or her

Just because you’re not diagnosed with depression doesn’t put you in a superior position than your depressed family member. So, don’t talk down to him or her; instead give useful advice to him or her that he or she can benefit from.

When your depressed family member wants to talk, listen to him or her with an open mind. This depressed person knows what makes him or her sad.  Perhaps, by speaking to him or her, you will realize that you are part of the problem.

Apart from researching the situation, you can also speak to your family doctor and discuss the symptoms and effects of depression, which could affect your depressed family member.

Convince your depressed family member to get professional help

This might be difficult for you to do, but by being a little pushy, you can achieve it. Depressed people often don’t admit they have a problem, so it’s important that you convince them to get another perspective on the problem will help them in the long run. A psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor or support group could help immensely.

Be patient as usually, depressed people have violent mood swings, which you might find difficult to cope with. However, patience on your part is key. If he or she has outbursts of anger, you might not be able to handle it. Assure them that you’re there for them and always will be. Your patience and perseverance can go a long way in curing your depressed family member, so hang in there for him or her.
